But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is
this day, to save many people alive.
I am amazed when I read the story of Joseph. Here is a man that is often recognized for his favor and for
the miraculous way God worked in his life. These are true observations, but in nearly every place he
found himself blessed, he was also very persecuted.
Joseph was favored in his father’s house, favored in Potipher’s house, favored in prison, and ultimately
he was favored in Pharaoh’s kingdom. Even through he had favor through all of this, he was betrayed by
family, lied about and accused of adultery, and thrown in prison. Joseph still remained faithful!
Horrible things happen to people. Maybe you’re like Joseph, and you’ve been abused and betrayed by
family and people close to you. People have taken advantage and lied about you. When you get
blessings it seems that it’s quickly taken from you. Don’t just rot in the prison! You can choose to take
those hurts and hardships and allow them to work the things Romans 5 talks about. Allow God to lift you
up! Don’t walk in bondage to your hurts! Shake off those chains! Step into the favor of the Lord!
I have learned in whatever state I am in, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to
abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound
and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
